S4: Luke 11: 5-13

 Scripture Read.  Luke 11: 5-13  Then he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says, Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him."  The the one inside answers, "Don't bother me.  The door is already locked, and my children are with me in bed.  I can't get up and give you anything." I tell you, though he will not get up and give him the bread because he is his friend, yet because of the man's boldness he will get up and give him as much as he needs.  So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.  Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will you give him a snake instead?  Or if he ask for an egg, will you give him a scorpion?  If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Sprit to those who ask him?

Thought Applied.  Relationship is not as important as boldness in the asking.  Be bold!  Do not sit idly by, but go and ask, seek, and knock!  Ask God for more of the Holy Spirit!

Application Made.  I often view life as access to resources, and I limit it to what I own, what I can but, and who might have it or can help me to get it.  But one very LARGE resource is God.  Yes, I know that can seem somewhat irreverent, but God says ASK!  SEEK! KNOCK!  He wants to be your Go To!  Ephesians 6:18 says, "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

Response Prayer.  As my Father, I know you hear my prayers, and I should turn to you when seeking things.  Please help me to spend more time in prayer with you FIRST.

God, I've been out on the sea of life now for over 58 years.  Sitting here on this calm clear night, I reflect upon your majesty and creation.  I can see nothing for miles, but I don't feel lost.  I don't feel anxious.  I feel calm and at ease.  Although I know I am upon the water, the clarity of the stars reflected in the calm waters around make me feel as if I'm afloat in the heavens. S3: The Fruit of Abiding Part 2 W2

 "Fruit" is a metaphor for a successful, productive life. John 15:16, "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go bear fruit - fruit that will last."  When we say "last", what are we saying?  Not perishing?  Outlast you?  Perhaps.  But something that at least has the potential to last a lifetime.  Nothing I can build or create can last.  Everything rusts and falls apart.  Moths eat, etc...  But helping someone determine their destiny - especially a destiny with Christ - that is a fruit that will last.
